Tralala I Accuse the Church and the State
I Accuse the Church and the State is a fictional foray into serious issues of modern American society. The traditionally strict separation of Church and State is being methodically blurred by an influential, relatively small but well financed segment of fundamentalist fanatics who are pulling our republic into the maw of a monster theocracy whose tentacles stand ready to choke all free thought. In this contemporary courtroom drama, author Andy Varlow builds on the tradition of American literary and dramatic classic Inherit the Wind, which took as its model the real-life Scopes Trial and the controversial legal work of Clarence Darrow a half-century ago in defense of teaching evolution in public schools. Varlow’s book borrows its title from Émile Zola’s famous open letter to the French government, which in 1898 set a new standard for expressing outrage to the powerful.
